Migrating to v2

If you registered a .agt name on the original registry, you can migrate the same name to the AGT Registry — the project's own self-sovereign contracts on Polygon. It is free and perpetual: no purchase, no renewals, ever. Your original token stays yours.

Start at /migrate. This guide explains what the migration is, which of the three migration paths applies to you, and what to expect.

Why migrate

  • You control it. The v2 name is an NFT in your wallet on contracts no third-party vendor administers.
  • It's permanent. Migrated names are granted with no expiry and no renewal fee.
  • It unlocks the full record model. A migrated name can publish a signed v3 manifest and set on-chain records — endpoints, keys, wallet, and manifest pointer.

The free, perpetual grant is a deliberate subsidy for existing holders, not a contractual guarantee of lifetime service.

The migration window

Migration opened when the registry went live on Polygon mainnet and run for twelve months, closing 2027-09-11. Names that are not migrated by then remain reserved — they are never resold to someone else. If you miss the window, contact support; reserved names are held for their original holder.

What you need

  • A browser wallet (MetaMask or any EIP-1193 wallet). The migrate page will prompt you to switch to Polygon.
  • A small amount of POL for gas. The name itself is free; you only pay the network fee to submit the migration.
  • For the same-chain path, the wallet that currently holds your original .agt token.

The three migration paths

Connect your wallet and enter your name on /migrate. It reads your eligibility on-chain and routes you to the right path automatically.

1. Same-chain migration (you hold the token on Polygon)

If your wallet holds the original .agt token on Polygon, the migration is a trustless on-chain proof — no allowlist needed. You approve the migration contract for your token, then migrate. Migrating burns your original token: it is transferred into the migration contract, which has no way to release it, so the name can never be split between two owners. This is permanent.

2. Proof migration (other chains, Solana, or an allowlist)

Many names were held on chains other than Polygon. Those are migrated by an allowlist proof: your [name, wallet] pair is included in a published Merkle allowlist, and the migrate page fetches the proof for you and submits the migration. No original-chain transaction is required — the proof is verified on Polygon.

3. Zone-owner challenge (a name that was never minted)

Most original registrations are zones, not minted tokens — there is nothing on-chain to prove from. For these, prove control of the zone instead:

  1. On /migrate, request a verification code.
  2. Add the code as a TXT record on yourname.agt in your current registry dashboard.
  3. Return to /migrate and click Verify.
  4. Once verified, your name is added to the next migration allowlist and you migrate it here with the same wallet — free and perpetual.

What you get

A migrated name mints an NFT to the recipient wallet and gives it a public identity page at /name/<label> — the on-chain badge, owner, status, and the resolver's public records, all read live from the chain. From there you can publish your agent manifest and set records.

FAQ

Why is my name showing as "reserved"?

Every name from the original master list is reserved on the registry for its holder to migrate. Reserved means it is held for you and cannot be bought by anyone else — migrating is how you take it up.

What happens to my original token?

On the same-chain path it is burned as part of the migration — permanently locked in the migration contract, which cannot release it. Your v2 name is a new NFT on the AGT Registry and is the only live token for that name. On the proof path (other chains, unminted zones) there is nothing on Polygon to burn; the original registration simply stops being the name's home.

My name has emoji or non-ASCII characters.

Internationalized labels are represented on-chain in xn-- punycode form. Enter the name as you normally type it; the registry matches it to its punycode label.

Do I ever have to pay or renew?

No. Migrating is free (you pay only network gas) and carry no renewal. Newly registered names — ones that were never held before — are the only names that carry a purchase price and annual renewal.
